Citizen’s Advice Sheffield is the leading local provider of advice and advocacy and aims to reduce poverty and campaign for social justice. This award is for their work campaigning around delays to benefits for terminally ill patients due to changes in the benefits system.

  • Outstanding Achievement in Supporting Young People - Sheffield Young Carers

Sheffield Young Carers supports young people caring for family members. Shortlisted for providing training in schools, and for working with social care and health professionals to help identify people affected.

Buzz provides a range of activities for more than 1000 vulnerable and isolated people. It won this award for actively responding to the needs of a wide age range of people with diverse needs and for involving service users in designing their activities.

  • Most Innovative Organisation - Handmade Cinema

By taking low-cost cinema out into the community, they make it accessible for those unable to access traditional cinema. It won for the innovative way in which it involves local communities in its work and for helping people to rediscover the magic of films in a way works for them.

  • Small Group – Big Impact - Sheffield Environment Weeks

This tiny group of volunteers supports community groups and organisations that improve the environment and engage in practical conservation. With an annual budget of just £1500, it pulls together a programme publicising more than 200 events each year.

  • Excellence in Supporting Health & Wellbeing - Cavendish Cancer Care

For a quarter of a century, Cavendish Cancer Care has worked alongside the NHS offering counselling, therapies and emotional support to those affected by cancer. It won this award for its excellent work and to mark the fact that it has helped more than 20,000 people.

  • Excellence in Partnership Working - Sheffield Alcohol Support Service Kindly sponsored by Sheffield BID

Mentors, who have experience alcohol dependency, working with those leaving hospital to give them support during the ‘high-risk’ immediate post-discharge period. It won for its collaborative work with local NHS organisations to bridge the gap between inpatient care and community support.

  • Outstanding Achievement of a Student-Led project - Upscribe

Kindly supported by the Blunkett Family

Founded by a creative writing student at Sheffield Hallam University who had experienced homelessness, Upscribe offers a safe and supportive environment for people to try out creative tasks to support self-expression and wellbeing. This award was for its innovative work with children in care, refugees and other vulnerable groups.

Highly Commended - Notre Dame High School and Pitsmoor Adventure Playground


  • Outstanding Achievement in Involving and Supporting Volunteers - Volunteer Libraries Sheffield

Around 800 volunteers run 15 libraries across Sheffield and their intervention stopped these community facilities being closed down. They won for the number and diversity of their volunteers and for the encouragement given to volunteers with learning disabilities, mental health needs and other challenges.
