Sheffield- city of sanctuary or hostility?

Time: 3-5pm, Tuesday 13th June

Venue: The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane, Sheffield S1 4FW

Sheffield has been a city of sanctuary for 10 years, and we continue to welcome people from across the globe to build a new life here.

Increasingly the environment nationally and locally is becoming more hostile, with implications for how we work and offer services as a sector.

This session isn’t just for those involved directly in supporting refugees and asylum seekers, but rather for anyone working with people who might be affected.

We will cover:

•      Hostile Environment Measures (Immigration Act 2014 and 2016)

•      Importance of Immigration Advice and AVR

•      Changes to asylum support and appeal rights

•      Withdrawal of Section 95 support to ARE families

•      Withdrawal of support to ARE care leavers

The session will be led by Gina Clayton, an ASSIST trustee and legal practitioner at South Yorkshire Refugee Law and Justice; and John Donkersley, a specialist immigration adviser and the supervising solicitor at Sheffield Citizens Advice and Law Centre

It will an opportunity to get up to date on what is happening now, and how you can offer support.
